OVERVIEW

The Department of Arts and Humanities Education (DAHE) at the College specialises in training secondary school teachers through three regular programmes such as Master of Education (M. Ed), Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PgDE) and Bachelor of Education (B. Ed). The two-year M. Ed programme for the in-service teachers consists of M. Ed in English and M. Ed in Geography. The M. Ed programmes offer in-depth understanding of the subjects of specialisation and provide, where necessary, the hands-on skills in the practical aspects of the subjects that are pertinent in the Twenty first century.

The PgDE programme focuses on equipping the pre-service students with relevant pedagogies that will prepare them to be effective secondary school teachers. The subjects in the 18-month PgDE for university graduate consist of English, Geography, History, Commerce, Accountancy and, Business and Entrepreneurship.

The Department also trains counsellors through the Postgraduate Diploma in Contemplative Counselling and Psychology, and social workers through the Bachelor of Arts in Social Work. Further, the Department provides Certificate level training in teaching to higher education faculty members through the parttime Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education.

The Department houses the Centre for Innovation in Educational Practices and Research (CIEPR). The Centre aims to enhance teaching, learning, assessment and professional practices in education. The Centre takes a number of initiatives to enhance professional development opportunities for secondary school teachers. The Co-ordinator of the Centre is entrusted with the responsibility to ensure proper planning and execution of the activities under Centre for University Learning and Teaching (CULT). CULT organises need-based professional development programmes for the University faculty members.
