On the evening of October 21, 2025, the auditorium of Samtse College of Education came alive with lights, music, and laughter as the college community gathered to celebrate Diwali: the Festival of Lights. The event, organised by the Diwali Committee, aimed to foster unity, inclusiveness, and cultural appreciation among students and staff.

The celebration began at 5:30 PM with the arrival of the President, Deans, and faculty members, followed by the traditional Aarti and Tika ceremony led by the Diwali team. The programme officially opened with a warm welcome speech by Hemanta Sanyasi (B.Ed ENG/HIS II), who emphasised Diwali’s significance as a festival symbolising the triumph of light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance.

The evening unfolded with soulful Bhajan and Deusi performances, filling the hall with devotion and festive spirit. A member of the Diwali team also shared insights into the history and traditions of Diwali, describing how families celebrate the occasion through lights, prayers, and togetherness.

A couple dance performances by the Diwali team officially opened the dance floor, paving the way for a series of energetic cultural performances. The programme featured Lhotsham and Hindi remixes, traditional numbers such as Ghungroo and Tihari Ma, and captivating solo acts. Students, dressed in bright and colourful attire, added vibrancy and excitement to the event.

During the performances, tea and selroti were served to faculty and staff by class representatives and councillors, adding a traditional and homely touch to the evening. Students were served tea and selroti in the college mess after the programme, followed by a vegetarian dinner for resident students.

The celebration concluded at 8:00 PM with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Choden Tamang (B.Ed ENG/HIS II), who expressed gratitude to the Diwali Committee, performers, and everyone involved for their dedication and effort in making the event a grand success.

Reflecting on the event, a Diwali team member shared that preparing for the celebration alongside academic responsibilities was both challenging and rewarding. They noted that the event not only promoted cultural diversity and teamwork but also embodied the true spirit of Diwali through its rituals, performances, and the sharing of selroti among students.

In the weeks leading up to the celebration, the Diwali team had worked tirelessly to ensure every detail reflected the festival’s essence. The evening ultimately brought joy, warmth, and unity to the college community, serving as a reminder of Diwali’s timeless message:The victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.
