Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche’s Insightful Session at Samtse College
Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche visited Samtse College last Wednesday, on April 30, 2025. The programme, marked by a sense of spiritual reverence, provided attendees with valuable insights into Buddhist philosophy and practice.
Held in the college auditorium, the programme was divided into two sessions. The first batch attended from 9:30 am to 10:40 am, followed by a brief interval before the second batch commenced at 10:50 am and continued until 12:00 pm. This division allowed both groups to receive teachings and blessings from the esteemed Rinpoche.
Several faculty members were also present during both sessions. Each session began with a welcome note and a brief biography of Rinpoche, delivered by Karma Dechen Tshering, a B.Ed second-year student majoring in English and Geography. Rinpoche commenced his talks with a personal account of his Dharma journey. In 2008, he completed his traditional three-year retreat at Sonada Monastery. He now serves as a living bridge, connecting the ancient wisdom of Tibetan Buddhism with the modern world.
Rinpoche introduced the fundamentals of the Niguma yogic tradition, focusing on core principles such as mental clarity, compassion, and meditative practice. He emphasised the importance of developing inner qualities while remaining mindful of contemporary issues.
During the Q&A sessions, Rinpoche addressed various inquiries from the audience, underlining the vital role of compassion, the importance of mindful action, and the value of preserving Bhutanese traditions. He also expressed his admiration for the visionary mega project in Gelephu, stating that its values of sustainability and community well-being aligned with the broader teachings of the Dharma.
Rinpoche shared that the 26-sequence Niguma yogic tradition practice will be showcased on August 5th at the Bhutan Echoes Festival, and the related book will be made freely available in Bhutan.
The session concluded with a heartfelt thank-you speech by Counselor Choki Gyeltshen. Following this, Rinpoche offered his blessings to the students and faculty, concluding the visit with the Wang (empowerment) ceremony.
