Vice Chancellor Inspires Future Educators at Samtse College
Samtse College of Education welcomed Dasho Chewang Rinzin, Vice Chancellor of the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB), for a visit on August 8th, 2025. The visit offered a meaningful opportunity for the college to connect with the Vice Chancellor, inspiring both faculty, staff and first year students through open dialogue and a shared vision of RUB as a centre of excellence.
In his address to the faculty, the Vice Chancellor reflected on his seven months in office and his three visits to the college during that time. He emphasised that a key part of his role is to bring people together and foster a shared sense of purpose and oneness. He stressed the importance of making connections stronger and thinking of ways to bring all the colleges together.
The Royal University of Bhutan, he said, is an enlightened force which, if able to leverage its collective strengths, can contribute not only to the university’s growth but also to nation-building in bigger and better ways. Highlighting RUB’s new vision, he outlined it as being internally relevant and meaningful, while also externally appealing. Thus, a shared and common vision is essential. He encouraged the faculty to lead by example as educators who embody the vision and inspire students by practicing what they preach.
The Vice Chancellor challenged the faculty to consider how SCE graduates will contribute to the nation four years from now. He urged them to embrace transformational change and emphasised the importance of thinking long-term and working towards lasting improvements rather than seeking immediate solutions.
In the afternoon, Dasho met with 157 first-year students in an interactive session. This meeting allowed him to connect personally with the newest members of SCE, listen to their perspectives, and offer guidance and encouragement.
He highlighted the profound impact educators have on shaping the destiny of nations and encouraged aspiring teachers to view their journey as a celebration of learning and growth. He stressed the importance of diligent preparation over the next four years, noting that this commitment would lay the foundation for a brighter future. Additionally, he emphasised resilience as key to success, urging students to adopt a determined mindset and assuring them that perseverance leads to positive outcomes.
Furthermore, Dasho underscored the need for collaboration among the education system, teachers, and trainees to effectively shape future generations. He encouraged trainees to “always strive to pursue the most challenging goals rather than settling for ease,” fostering self-confidence and resilience in the face of adversity. Sharing his vision for significant future changes, he called on trainees to embrace their responsibilities wholeheartedly, emphasising the vital role educators play in serving the country and nurturing leadership among the youth.
During the question-and-answer session, Yeshi Dema, a student from the B.Ed Maths/Physics programme, asked how freshers could contribute both to the college and to the country as future teachers. In response, Dasho emphasised that freshers can make significant contributions by excelling in their primary subjects and remaining engaged with their academic pursuits. He highlighted that these two actions are crucial for personal development and for fostering a vibrant academic community. Furthermore, he addressed the role of future teachers, stating that the commitment to serve the king and country, along with embracing the responsibilities of teaching, represents one of the most profound contributions an individual can make to society.
The college family organised a potluck dinner in honour of Dasho and his team.
