The annual faculty-student research convention with the theme “Education Talks: Bridging the Gap between Research and Practice” was hosted by the Department of Research and Industrial Linkages on 21st October 2022.

In his Keynote address, Professor David Thomas, a Fulbright Scholar currently in SCE on “Structure and Substance of Digital Discourse in Blended and Online Courses”  emphasised  the varied research approaches and technological tools available to assist scholars in their study. The yearly research convention serves as a means of bridging the gap between academic research and practical implementation, which is an issue Bhutanese academia frequently face. The convention was divided into 3 panels, and featured 12 different research papers including one presented by a Master’s student presently enrolled in the College. Tshering Zangmo, from MEd Chemistry, presented her ongoing research on “Understanding the Emotional Climate of a Chemistry Class in One of the higher secondary schools in Paro”. Dr Yangdon, who presented the findings of her PhD Dissertation, “Do Knowledge, Motivation Efficacy and Implementation Affect the Impact of Spiritual Greenery Schools?” said she was excited to share her learnings with the audience and looks forward to such events.

In his closing remark, Dr Rinchen Dorji said that listening to the findings and recommendations from the different research presentations provided new learning and new perspectives and that he was different in some ways having learnt about the different trends in the research areas.  He further stated that such faculty-student conventions provide an opportunity for the regeneration of knowledge and learning in various fields of study and that each presenter went away with an enriching experience. Dr Dechen Doma echoed similar sentiments adding that she is pleased to see that over the years, the quality of research and paper presentation has drastically improved, which highlights the kind of effort put into it by the researchers.

The convention concluded with the award of participation certificates for the presenters.
