Last cohort of BEd graduates

On 18 June 2022, the College organised the awards ceremony for the last cohort of the Bachelor of Education (BEd) students.
In the welcome speech, the college president shared that the ceremony is a solemn and sombre occasion where the college fraternity observes the end of a teacher education programme that has been the backbone of all other teacher education programmes. The president also said, “as we witness the transformative changes happening in the civil service and the education system in the country, we also embrace these changes as a timely opportunity to look beyond and grow ourselves as a teacher education college.”
The chief guest Dasho Dzongda of Samtse district in his address to the graduands said they have a big and noble responsibility to shoulder. Dasho mentioned that they are second parents to the children and must become role models in behaviour, code of conduct, politeness, punctuality, integrity, values, driglam namzha, tha damtshi, ley jumdrey, dress and hairstyle, etc. “Teachers must not become obsolete and must continue learning, adopting reading habits, using technology to impart education and prepare students for the 21st century,” Dasho added. Dasho also reminded graduands that they need to know the basic elements of the Royal Kasho issued during the 113th National Day celebration at Punakha dzong in 2020.
In the valedictory speech, Pemba Tshering of BEd secondary arts thanked all faculty and staff not only for imparting knowledge and information but also for life changing values. “I think it is very difficult to carry the name ‘teacher’, but I promise to serve the nation with the tha damtshi”, he said. Another graduand Neten Dema from BEd secondary science candidly expressed that life is not always a linear growth and our degree doesn’t define everything. “I learned many things by doing assignments, participating in college activities and also managing personal finances and those learnings are not reflected in our degrees.” she added.
This year, a total of 175 BEds are graduating and currently they are attending the Bhutan Baccalaureate training facilitated by the lectures of the college.
