SCE Students Try Their Hand at Journalism
Samtse College of Education recently organized a two-day news writing workshop from 11–12 April to equip students with foundational journalism skills. The workshop was facilitated by Tshering Dorji, founder of OX Media, who brought a wealth of practical experience and industry insight to the sessions.
Over the course of two days, students were introduced to the fundamentals of news writing, including different types of news, what makes a story newsworthy, and techniques for conducting effective interviews. With a strong emphasis on hands-on learning and interactive discussions, the workshop helped participants gain clarity and confidence in their writing abilities.
“Interacting with the students and knowing that they are passionate about journalism was a memorable moment from this two-day workshop,” shared Tshering Dorji, highlighting the enthusiasm and engagement of the participants.
One of the participants, Karma Dechen, expressed her appreciation for the experience: “The workshop was very effective, and it truly reminded me of everything I had learned in my last workshop. It was simple, yet very beneficial. I hope we continue to have more workshops in the future.”
The event not only refreshed the knowledge of returning participants but also introduced new students to the core principles of journalistic writing. Initiatives like this reflect the college’s commitment to nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and effective communication among its students. With growing interest in media and storytelling, the workshop served as a valuable stepping stone for many aspiring writers to pursue journalism with confidence and purpose.
