Samtse College of Education initiates a panel discussion on the theme “Equitable Prosperity through Inclusive Growth”
A panel discussion under an expanding discourse about Bhutan Democracy Forum on the theme “Equitable Prosperity through Inclusive Growth” was put together by Bhutan Centre for Media and Democracy (BCMD) in partnership with the Royal University of Bhutan in Thimphu in May 2022. The perspectives and discussion on the theme were further deliberated on by M.Ed. and PgCert students in the College on 6th September 2022.
Students from various disciplines acted as panellists and moderators commenting on the various perspective shared by the eclectic panels of international and national speakers. The panel commenced with the moderator, highlighting pertinent national issues on Bhutan’s Equitable Prosperity through Inclusive Economic Growth based on the panel discussion of Mr. Hamid Rashid from UN, Mr. Gopal Giri from RMA, and Member of Parliament Kinley Wangchuk.
SCE Panelists gave their perspectives on how imperative it is for citizens, and more importantly as teachers to introspect and act on the effect of impending Covid-19 on the Equitable Economic growth of our country. Highlighting the issue, Ngawang Choden, a panellist said, “I realized that our economy is going through an unprecedented situation, and our society must make greater contributions to advance and work for a brighter future for our country rather than waiting for the government to take care of everything”. She also further stressed, that as educators and future teachers, we must encourage greater civic engagement among students so they can successfully navigate through today’s societal, economic, and social issues.
Other panellists also deliberated on pertinent issues such as reduced consumption, living sustainably, employing eco-friendly transport, supporting our local business/ production port, building an entrepreneurship mindset, and exercising the fundamental rights to foster equitable Prosperity through Inclusive Growth. Yeshey Seday said, “Financial literacy among all others has become very crucial for our students to grasp the gravity of Inclusive Economic Growth in our country”. Panellists once again emphasized the College’s roles and responsibilities as educators and teacher educators to instil the importance of being a constructive contributory citizen in a just and harmonious citizen.
Neenuka Gurung, an MEd Student participant said, “panel discussion like this one should be held often as it’s insightful and an eye opener for us as teachers to introspect on so many issues concerning our country and youths”. The panel discussion was attended by postgraduate students, faculty and staff of the college.
