SCE Academic Toppers Participate in Academic and Cultural Immersion Programme at Adamas University, Kolkata
A group of academic toppers, comprising seven girls from various programmes at Samtse College of Education (SCE), Royal University of Bhutan, recently participated in a weeklong academic and cultural immersion programme titled Samarthya: Unlocking Student Strengths for Lifelong Success, held at Adamas University, Kolkata, from 15th to 20th June 2025. Organised in collaboration with SCE, the specially curated programme aimed to empower students with global perspectives, intercultural understanding, and essential 21st-century competencies through experiential learning.
This year’s participants—selected based on their academic excellence—were accompanied by a faculty escort. The programme offered a rich mix of academic sessions, cultural exchanges, institutional visits, and interactive workshops covering diverse themes such as artificial intelligence in education, personality development, entrepreneurship, Indian cinema, and mindfulness. The students proudly showcased Bhutanese traditions and actively engaged in cross-cultural dialogue with their Indian peers, fostering lasting bonds of friendship and collaboration between the two countries.
Throughout the five-day programme, the participants explored Adamas University’s dynamic learning environment, which included visits to its state-of-the-art library, moot court, E-YUVA Centre (an innovation hub), and affiliated schools. Memorable highlights included witnessing a live cricket match at Eden Gardens and meaningful interactions with faculty and students across disciplines. The experience reaffirmed the transformative value of cultural immersion in shaping leadership, inclusivity, and innovation—encouraging the participants to become globally-minded and future-ready educators.
“My favourite session was at the Research Centre, where I truly enjoyed learning about the innovative projects that students and professors are working on. It was incredibly inspiring and, more importantly, encouraged me to think beyond the ordinary. As one of the professors rightly said, anyone can give ideas, but what truly matters is coming up with solutions and pursuing them with passion and determination,” shared Pema Zangmo, PgDE.
“All the sessions were enriching and insightful, but the one that stood out the most for me was the visit to the E-YUVA Centre. The centre is currently developing an app that connects users with nearby professionals—such as psychologists or therapists—to offer timely and accessible mental health support. Given my background in counselling, I found this initiative especially meaningful and impactful,” added Namgay Wangmo, PgDCCP.
