A Webinar on Blogging by a popularly Bhutanese Blogger Passang Tshering

The department of Language Education organized a webinar on blogging as a part of their semester plan. Passang Tshering, popularly known by his blog name Passu Diary shared his journey as a teacher, a social worker, and a blogger relating them to the experiences of educators and students of the college.

Passang Tshering was a teacher at Royal Academy who later resigned to pursue blogging, followed by the establishment of Bhutan Toilet Organization in 2015 giving him the title Chablop Passang. In an hour and a half session, he shared prerequisites and the journey of becoming a blogger mainly through examples of what a blogger can accomplish by beginning it with reading habits. He emphasized that reading is never too late for anyone, “I started reading and taking notes when I was in class XI.” He advised the participants to choose a subject of interest or a niche to to write about in the first place. Writing, according to him is like any other skill in life, one acquires it only with constant practice and to be a blogger, one must write every day and not wait to become a perfectionist. Besides the joy of publishing and the art of writing, he said that blogging leaves a legacy behind and also helps in building social capital (making yourself known to people). “As a young teacher, if you can build your social capital, people would come to you searching for your expertise”, he said to the students.

Towards the end of the session, he advised the students not to be an ordinary teacher who simply age and waits for retirement, but pursue some exciting plans such as writing and doing social work which can elevate students’ faith in teaching. “Teachers are all social workers and school is a safe ground to experiment ideas”. He also introduced Grammarly, an online writing assistant.
