Fulltime Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PgCert in HE) programme was launched in the College on 5th August 2021.
In the simple inaugural ceremony, the first cohort consisting of ten faculty members from other colleges of the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) and faculty members of the College participated. Semester long programme is a shift from the part-time to fulltime course. ‘This shift in the modality was initiated by the College based on the needs assessment survey findings and also on the recommendation of the Academic Board of the RUB,’ said Mr. Lhapchu who is the programme leader.
The programme structure consists of four modules- Curriculum Design and Evaluation in Higher Education, Introduction to University Learning and Teaching, Assessment and Feedback in Higher Education and Educational Technology. ‘The course will prepare higher education academics to up-scale their skills in teaching, assessment techniques and use of educational technology,’ added Mr. Lhapchu.
The College President in his remark stated that launching such a course for academics is timely as the country is in the process of massive and remarkable Educational Reform. He reassured the cohort that the course will bring about a change at how young academics perceive teaching and learning when they get back to their profession. ‘At such a restrictive time and also the College being located very near to the international border of a country which is battling through third phase of the pandemic, there will be inconveniences and challenges, but take all of these experiences as lessons to develop resilience, patience and compassion’, said the President. On behalf of the College, the President also congratulated the cohort for being nominated and selected as candidates for the course.
The launching ceremony was held in the Namgay Khangzang and students received Tashi Khadar as a welcome gesture from the College President.
