Samtse College of Education Conducts Faculty Training on AI for Academic Excellence
Samtse College of Education (SCE) successfully conducted a one-day faculty training on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Teaching, Learning, Research, and Assessment on 21st March 2026 at Rigpa Hall, bringing together 35 faculty members to explore the transformative role of AI in higher education.
The training began with a welcome and opening remarks by the Dean of Academic Affairs, followed by an address from the College President, who emphasised the urgent need for integrating AI into academic practices. The session set the tone for a forward-looking approach to education, highlighting AI as an essential tool for innovation rather than a challenge to be resisted.
The programme was structured into three key sessions focusing on AI in teaching and learning, assessment, and research. Faculty members were introduced to a range of AI tools and explored their applications in content development, student engagement, and academic writing.
A major highlight of the training was the session on AI in assessment, where participants examined the challenges of maintaining academic integrity in the age of AI. Faculty members actively engaged in redesigning assessment tasks to ensure that student thinking and learning processes remain central.
The research session provided hands-on experience in conducting literature reviews using AI tools, enabling faculty to streamline research processes while maintaining academic rigour.
The training adopted a highly interactive approach, incorporating discussions, activities, and hands-on practice with AI tools. Participants appreciated the practical orientation of the sessions, particularly the opportunity to directly apply AI tools in real-time. One of the participants expressed “The session was both timely and empowering—it helped us see AI not as a disruption, but as a meaningful partner in enhancing our teaching, research, and assessment practices while staying grounded in academic integrity.”
Overall, the training marked a significant step in strengthening AI literacy among faculty and reaffirmed SCE’s commitment to innovation in education. The programme underscored the importance of balancing technological advancement with core academic values such as critical thinking, authenticity, and ethical practice.
