Samtse, 20 July 2026 – Samtse College of Education (SCE), Royal University of Bhutan, officially commenced the Autumn 2026 Semester on 20 July 2026 with prayer sessions, followed by a general staff meeting.  The meeting brought together the President, faculty members, and staff to prepare for the new semester through collaborative planning, reflection, and alignment with institutional priorities.

The day’s meeting mainly focused on module distribution, a review of committee memberships, and the appointment of class advisors and module coordinators for the semester while the individual module planning,  programme, department, research, and student service planning meetings are scheduled over the subsequent days of the week to ensure effective academic, research, and student services planning and coordination for the new semester.

The day also marked a Khadar presentation in honour of Mr. Thinley Wangchuk in recognition of his successful completion of his master’s degree.

Mr. Thinley Wangchuk has been a faculty member at Samtse College of Education since 2019. In 2022, he received the opportunity to pursue a Master of Arts in Humanities Education (History Education) at the National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. He successfully completed the programme in 2024 and returned to SCE to continue his teaching responsibilities.

Addressing the gathering, the President highlighted the Royal University of Bhutan’s continued emphasis on academic excellence, high-impact research, strategic global engagement, and the enhancement of teaching, learning, and assessment (TLA) practices. Faculty members were encouraged to strengthen research engagement, provide quality learning experiences, support student wellbeing, and serve as professional role models.

The President also emphasised the importance of student safety, timely academic interventions, effective management, and quality service delivery in creating a supportive environment for teaching and learning. Key initiatives highlighted included strengthening alumni engagement through a graduate management platform, promoting contemplative approaches to education, and expanding professional learning opportunities through Coursera.

The morning session concluded with the review of committee memberships and the appointment of module coordinators and class advisors. In the afternoon, module tutors engaged in individual module planning to ensure effective course delivery aligned with programme outcomes and institutional quality standards.

The commencement of the Autumn 2026 Semester reflects SCE’s continued commitment to excellence in teacher education, research-informed practice, and the preparation of competent, ethical, and compassionate educators who contribute meaningfully to Bhutan’s education system and beyond.
