Samtse College Gym opens, Ushering in a New Era of Fitness
The Samtse College gym has officially opened, inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of the Royal University of Bhutan on March 18. With 54 students—20 female and 34 male—already registered, the turnout is expected to grow further. The gym, equipped with new facilities, aims to promote fitness and well-being among students and staff.
The gym operates from Monday to Saturday, with morning sessions from 5:00 to 6:00 AM and evening sessions from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Male users are divided into two groups of 17 members each, alternating morning sessions, while female users have dedicated evening slots. Staff members use the gym from 7:00 to 8:00 PM, with alternating male and female sessions for the remaining evening hours.
On March 24, registered students attended an orientation and safety briefing led by gym advisors Mr. Diwash Sundas and Mr. Bikash Uroan. The session, coordinated by the office of the Dean of Student Affairs and Student Service Officer (SSO), covered essential topics such as workout consistency, dispelling gym-related misconceptions, and the importance of discipline. The advisors also warned against toxic habits like ego lifting and emphasized the gym’s role beyond bodybuilding or boxing.
“I earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from this college, where we had a gym several years ago. After a significant gap, the college has now reopened the gym with newly equipped facilities. I am truly honored to serve as a gym advisor for this prestigious institution and look forward to fostering strong cooperation from gym users,” said Mr. Diwash Sundas.
The gym features cardiovascular equipment like treadmills, strength training machines, free weights, and functional training areas. First-year student Kinga Rabten shared, “I eagerly anticipated the gym’s opening ever since it was announced last semester. Now, as one of its users, I am truly enjoying the experience and looking forward to achieving my fitness goals.”
Gym user Loday Wangdi added, “I really enjoy the college gym facilities, but it would be more convenient with a larger space and additional equipment like battle ropes. With so many users, it’s hard to get a full workout within the limited time. I hope the college expands the gym in the future to accommodate the growing number of users and provide more workout opportunities. That said, I am really enjoying my gym sessions.”
With its official opening, the SCE gym is set to become a hub for fitness enthusiasts, fostering a culture of health and well-being across the campus.
