Khenpo Jangsem Tashi Delivers Insightful Religious Discourse at Samtse College of Education
On August 19, 2024, Samtse College of Education had the honour of hosting Khenpo Jangsem Tashi, who delivered a profound talk to faculty and students. The evening gathering in the college auditorium was an occasion of deep reflection and learning as the Khenpo focused on the power of individual thought and its role in shaping our happiness.
Khenpo Jangsem Tashi elaborated on various perceptions of happiness, emphasizing that one’s mindset plays a crucial role in determining their well-being. He discussed how some may seek happiness through self-serving actions, while others find joy in the success of others, urging everyone to embrace the latter. The Khenpo’s teachings underscored the importance of living ethically and harmoniously, fostering an environment where humanity thrives without causing harm to one another.
Passang Dem, a B.Ed IT D student, reflected on the impact of the Khenpo’s words, saying, “Before, I was unaware of such aspects of happiness. After attending the session, I gained new insights. Now, I truly believe that we are the creators of our own happiness.”
In addition to discussing happiness, Khenpo Jangsem Tashi also touched upon cognitive development, linking it to the broader questions of life’s meaning and purpose. He cautioned against limiting cognitive growth to religious affirmation alone, noting that doing so can lead to societal disarray, including religious conflicts, social disharmony, and even wars based on race and ethics.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Choki Gyeltshen, who expressed gratitude to the Khenpo for his time and wisdom. His Holiness’s visit was a significant moment for the college community, leaving a lasting impact on all who attended.
