Marking International Peace Day in the College

Samtse College of Education joined the world in celebrating the International Day of Peace on September 21. The day is marked to understand the ideals of peace and avoid violence which has brought about nothing but despair and an uncertain future for many. The day was declared by the UN in 1981 mainly to fight against hostility and all forms of threats to peace.

The SCE Y-VIA programme displayed this year’s theme ” ‘Recovering Better for an Equitable and Sustainable World ‘, and distributed brochures and chocolates. Students and staffs were all welcomed to take part to ensure peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace. In an email message, the Dean of Student Affairs, who is from a counselling background wrote, “Let us try to forgive and abandon all resentments that we have been holding onto since our early childhood days because only FORGIVENESS can bring peace, happiness, and emotional healing that would help us move forward in life. If we are not peaceful within, we cannot bring peace to those around us, and observation of such International Peace Day will unfortunately remain as an obsolete idea.” The day was marked to also ensure that the new post-pandemic is not just equal in several ways, but is healthier as well and to pray for a rapid global recovery from the pandemic.

The Sherig FM team also hosted a talk show in collaboration with the Y-Via team later in the evening to talk about the significance of the Peace Day. Guest speakers were students undergoing Post graduate Diploma in Education.
