Happy 50th Foundation Day
Samtse College of Education celebrated its 50th Foundation Day on 29th May, 2018, coinciding with Duechen Ngazom.
Dasho (Dr.) Pema Thinley, the former Vice Chancellor, was the guest of honour. In his address, Dasho (Dr.) Pema Thinley, narrated his engagement with the college. The 50th foundation day coinciding with Duechen Ngazom is an indication that Samtse College should lead the way to usher in a new Era of reform in education that will align the education in Bhutan to its wisdom tradition. He shared his reflection on the State of Bhutanese Education system today; our inspiration (Monarchs), essence of Education in Bhutan, Human values, Strategy for GNH inspired schools, and Education reforms.
On his introductory remarks, Dr. Dorji Thinley, President of the College welcomed the Guest of Honor, distinguished guests and congratulated all the faculty members and students for successfully completing 50 years of existence. He highlighted on the importance of the day, the contributions made by the College in nation-building and shared our Monarch’s vision about teacher training in Bhutan. He added that exactly 50 years ago in his inaugural speech; the late king shared his vision of the self-sufficiency of national teachers in the country with the establishment of the first teacher training institute in Samtse.
The President shared about the progress of the college in academic where there was launching of M.Ed (Master in Education) program. He emphasized on the modification of the college environment, like renovation of main girl’s hostel, science block, auditorium, and college mess. He also highlighted on the college greening project where the chosen areas were leveled and structured for grass plantation. The President also presented the future plans and objectives of the college.
The day witnessed many important activities. Some of the highlights of the day were the talk given by Professor Annez Z. Parker on her perspectives on RUB-Naropa University Collaboration, a speech given by Mr. Pema Jigme, a final year student on Founding Father’s Educational Vision and the establishment of TTI, Ikebana (arrangement of flowers) display by Ms. Agathe I. Steinhilber & team and the launching of SCE Website.
The day also celebrated the release of SHES-RIG PAGES and the launch of New Reception Hall. The college administration took opportunity to thank and offer a token of appreciation to the Jachung Security Service Personnel for their dedicated service to the college. The other activities included various cultural dances, songs and a glamorous Indigenous Fashion Show by first year students.
On this auspicious occasion one small video clip was prepared and displayed to showcase the progress of the college and to appreciate the hard work and the efforts of the students in Campus Landscaping and Greening Project.
The activities were followed by an art exhibition that showcased a huge collection of fine art works by the students and the faculty. Finally, the celebration ended with the Grand Finale of the 50th Foundation Day Open Football Tournament. The match was between SCE and CST (College of Science and Technology), where the first position was bagged by CST with the score of 4-2. The winner of the match was awarded cash prize of Nu.50, 000 and Nu. 30, 000 for the runners up.
