Ink Meets Insight: Students Sharpen Journalism Skills
Samtse College of Education conducted a two-day news writing workshop from 10 to 11 April, 2026, bringing together 21 participants to strengthen their skills in professional news reporting.
The workshop was facilitated by Tshering Dorji, founder of OX Media, who shared extensive practical experience and valuable industry insights throughout the sessions.
The training focused on key aspects of journalism, including understanding news values, structuring stories using the inverted pyramid style, and crafting effective headlines and leads. Participants were also introduced to techniques for conducting interviews, verifying information, and ensuring accuracy, balance, and clarity in reporting.
Through practical exercises, participants were given opportunities to apply their learning by writing news articles and developing story ideas. The interactive sessions encouraged active participation and helped build confidence in news writing and communication.

The programme aimed to strengthen participantsโ ability to produce clear, factual, and engaging news content for a range of media platforms. By the end of the workshop, participants demonstrated a stronger understanding of journalistic principles and expressed appreciation for the hands-on learning experience.
The workshop concluded successfully, with participants better equipped to contribute to professional and responsible media practices.
