Samtse College of Education (SCE) hosted the Bhutan University Sports Federation (BUSF) qualifying tournament against the College of Science and Technology (CST) from 27–28 September 2025. The event was organised with the primary objective of fostering stronger inter-collegiate relations among BUSF member institutions, in alignment with the Royal University of Bhutan’s (RUB) overarching goal of promoting holistic education, collaboration, and networking beyond the classroom.

The qualifying matches were conducted as part of the preparation for the forthcoming 10th BUSF Winter Games scheduled in December 2025, providing students with opportunities to engage in competitive sports while upholding the values of discipline, teamwork, and mutual respect. The tournament featured a diverse range of sporting categories, including archery, football, volleyball, and basketball, contested by both male and female teams. These activities highlighted the significance of co-curricular and extra-curricular engagement in nurturing not only the physical well-being of students but also their leadership skills, resilience, and sense of institutional identity.

Match Results for SCE

  • Volleyball: Girls’ Team – Won | Boys’ Team – Lost

  • Basketball: Girls’ Team – Lost | Boys’ Team – Withdrew from the tournament

  • Football: Girls’ Team – Draw (1–1) | Boys’ Team – Lost

  • Archery: Boys’ Team – Won

Reflecting on the experience, Yeshi Gyeltshen, a councilor and participant from the B.Ed programme, described the tournament as enriching and transformative. He expressed a deep sense of pride in representing SCE and emphasised the importance of such sporting events in strengthening unity and building confidence among students. He further articulated his hope that the continuity of similar tournaments will contribute to the sustained development of sports culture within the RUB system.

By hosting the tournament, SCE not only provided a platform for competitive engagement but also reinforced its commitment to supporting student development in line with RUB’s emphasis on balanced growth across academic, cultural, and sporting domains. The College views sports as a medium to cultivate broader educational outcomes, including social cohesion, intercultural understanding, and holistic personal growth.

SCE is scheduled to host the next BUSF qualifying match against Gedu College of Business Studies on 4 October 2025, further demonstrating its dedication to advancing collegiate sports and fostering collaborative ties among RUB member colleges.
