Samtse College of Education successfully organised the 2023 Annual College Marathon on November 11, 2023, with the primary aim of commemorating four significant occasions namely the 68th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, Gross National Happiness (GNH) Day, Constitution Day, and Children’s Day. The event was strategically designed to foster a sense of unity, well-being, and celebration exclusively among the faculty, staff, and students of the College.

The Marathon featured two categories: a 12-kilometer route for men and an 8-kilometer route for women. Both categories commenced and concluded the race at the College football ground. To minimize potential traffic disruptions, the event was scheduled for the early morning hours, from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM, with the marathon race route planned on the Samtse Gomtu by-pass road. A total of 139 participants, including faculty and staff, enthusiastically took part in the race.

Mr. Sajay Chhetri, a first-year BEd IT student, emerged victorious in the men’s category, completing the 12km race in 57 minutes and 23 seconds, securing the cash prize of Nu. 7000. Following closely, Mr. Kinley Wangyel Gyeltshen and Mr. Dorji Khandu, both from BEd IT year I, secured the Second and Third positions, receiving cash prizes of Nu. 5000 and Nu. 3000, respectively.

Meanwhile, in the women’s category, Ms. Dorji Seldon, a first-year BEd IT student, emerged triumphant by completing the 8km race in 45 minutes and 19 seconds, earning the coveted cash prize of Nu. 7000. Ms. Dechen Tshomo from the BA in Social Work (BASW) year I and Ms. Dawa Zam from BEd (Eng/His) year I secured the Second and Third positions, each taking home cash prizes of Nu. 5000 and Nu. 3000, respectively.

The event was not only a celebration of important occasions but also showcased the spirit of unity and well-being among participants, reinforcing the College’s commitment to fostering a healthy and vibrant community. This dedication was evident in the success of the event, marked by impressive performances and enthusiastic participation, highlighting the College’s commitment to promoting physical fitness and a strong sense of togetherness among its faculty, staff, and students.
