The College celebrates National Teacher’s Day
Coinciding the Birth Anniversary of Late His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the Samtse College of Education joined the nation in celebrating National Teachers’ Day.
Teachers’ Day celebration began with the lighting of butter lamps in the Rigsum Gonpo Hall and reciting prayers in memory of Late His Majesty The Third King who was the Founding Father of modern education in Bhutan. It was followed by the cultural programme in the Namgyel Khangzang (auditorium) performed by students from different courses. In the entertainment section, faculty members also participated. Recordings of day’s greeting by the graduates of this College were screened too.
“I have never felt so much joy and excitement like today and this day was the most awaited day for me. As it is the day to pay tribute to His Majesty The Third King and as a student, it is a special day to pay gratitude to all my teachers and teachers around the globe. I felt satisfied having wished my teachers and taking part in the celebration. Indeed teachers are my light in the darkness; an inspiration and hope. I shall cherish this special day” said, Karma Tshering, B.Ed. 4th year student pursuing English and History.
Although UNESCO has declared October 5th as the Teachers’ Day, however in Bhutan, the then Health and Education Minister Lyonpo Sangay Ngedup announced and declared May 2nd as the National Teachers’ Day. Since then, Bhutan observes May 2nd as the National Teachers’ Day to recognize, thank and celebrate the efforts of our teachers in shaping the youths of our nation.
Mr. Dorji Dukpa, a retired Associate Professor of the College was the Guest of Honour for the celebration.
