Samtse College of Education organizes Street Show
A musical street show was conducted after a gap of four years by the College Music Club on the night of 3rd April 2021.
In-campus students and a few staff participated in the singing and dancing competition. The event was mainly organized to provide a platform to showcase the musical talents of the students and staff. Mr. Karma Tshering, a Music Club Coordinator shared, “such rare events will help students to refresh their minds while also promoting culture and Bhutanese music”. He further mentioned that the “show was organized to substitute Jam session which has long been discouraged as part of COVID-19 safety protocols”.
Around the venue, the Nature Journaling Club opened a food stall aiming to generate income for the club as well as to make the event more enjoyable.
There was also a lucky draw among the students using their student ID number and it helped in the garnering of spectators and keeping them till the end of the show.
From the dance category, Dema Yangzom of BA in Social Work first year won the competition and from a singing category, Soanm Yarphel and Tenzin Duba both from B. Ed Eng & Hist final year Arts ‘A’ were declared the winner. Both the lucky draw winners and winners of dancing and singing categories were awarded cash prizes.
All the students residing on the campus turned up at the event. “It was entertaining and thrilling!” said Mr. Sonam Chophel of BA in Social Work 2nd year who came to witness the show. The show went on from 7 p.m. till 10 p.m.
Many were of the view that the event was not just entertaining but also a breather amidst the hustles of academic workload. The college looks forward to organizing similar events in the future as well.
