The College bade farewell to four staff of the College – Mr. Dorji Drukpa, Assistant Professor in English, Mr. Johan Westman, Music Teacher, Mr. Rajen Kami, Carpenter and Mr. Buddhiman Rai, Cleaner on 29th January 2021.

In a simple farewell dinner, the President of the College thanked all of them for serving the College and the nation of so many years. He further mentioned that their services in various capacities have helped this premier institution to grow better.

Mr. Dorji Drukpa served the nation for 37 years and 8 months. He has begun his career as Transport Officer and later joined teaching because of his great enthusiasm for teaching. Before joining this College as faculty of English, he served as a teacher, principal and education inspector under the erstwhile Inspectorate of Education in the Ministry of Education. In his emotional farewell remark, he expressed, “It is not my service to the nation rather it is the government and nation who took care of me. So, I would like to thank the government and the nation for taking care of me for all these years.” Mr. Dorji Drukpa was known for his simplicity, humility, hard work and an unassuming personality. The College President made a special mention of these traits in him as a colleague and a professional.

Mr. Johan Westman, from Sweden, joined SCE as a music teacher five years ago. He is leaving the College to join the College of Language and Culture Studies, Taktse in Trongsa. During his stay in the College, he brought a lot of positive development in music education not only through the teaching of music lessons to the students in the College but also in developing the facilities in the music education centre such as procurement of musical instruments and other facilities. The President stated that Johan is someone who has a deep respect and appreciation for Bhutan and our culture. Johan also conducted free music classes during the weekends for school children living in the college campus. In his remark, Johan mentioned that he learnt a lot from the College and thanked everyone for helping and being nice to him.

Mr. Rajen Kami, a support staff joined the College 17 years ago as a gardener and went on to become one of the multi-skilled support staff of the College. In his farewell speech, he mentioned that when he joined the College, he came empty-handed and had nothing with him but now is going back with lot of experiences.

Mr. Buddhiman Rai, a naïve and soft natured person did not speak but his face did speak some remorse.
