Programme Overview
The Master of Education (MEd) in Biology programme is designed for in-service teachers who aspire to upgrade their qualifications, advance their careers, and keep pace with the rapid changes in education. The programme prepares reflective, research-oriented, and technologically competent educators for 21st-century learning and teaching. It strengthens professional understanding of teaching, learning, curriculum, and assessment while deepening advanced and contemporary knowledge in Biology. The programme also promotes innovative pedagogy through the integration of ICT, simulations, and scientific tools, and develops research competence through school-based investigations and dissertation work. Overall, it equips graduates with critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, research, and digital skills essential for effective teaching, professional growth, and lifelong learning.
Duration of the programme
The programme is an eighteen-month full-time course of study leading to the award of Master of Education in Biology by the Royal University of Bhutan.

Programme outcomes
On completion of the programme, graduates will be able to:
- articulate higher level of competency in their content knowledge and pedagogical skills related to biology education;
- develop a philosophy about education and apply it in their practice;
- exhibit in-depth content knowledge in biology and apply it in classroom teaching and learning;
- demonstrate the knowledge of contemporary issues in teaching biology in schools;
- identify interventions to remedy common misconceptions in Biology;
- demonstrate research competency through the application of relevant methods and apply the findings in their classroom practice;
- exhibit creativity in designing, implementing and assessing lessons in Biology;
- exhibit innovation and creativity in designing, performing and evaluating experiments in classroom settings;
- apply appropriate research methods and design to conduct research in Biology;
- evaluate and reflect on their performance as researchers or practitioners to make recommendations for future practice/research and explain how these recommendations might be implemented for future practice/research;
- design and develop teaching and learning resources, including ICT, to meet the diverse learning competencies and needs of learners;
- develop the necessary professional skills and competencies for the advancement of Biology education;
- carry out an independent piece of research which culminates in a dissertation; and
- engage in self-learning, reflection, and habits of lifelong learning to instill a sense of scientific temper and curiosity;
- exhibit appropriate qualities expected of a Biology teacher, including the Code of Conduct for Teachers, Bhutanese values and etiquette.

The announcement for the programme will be made through MoE and SCE websites well before the beginning of the academic year. The aspiring students must apply online. The RUB website will also contain the detailed procedures for the online application.

- BSc/PgDE/BEd/in Biology
