The faculty, staff, and students of Samtse College of Education gathered together in the College Prayer Hall in the early morning hours of February 21st 2019 to commemorate the 39th Birth Anniversary of our beloved His Majesty Druk Gyal Ngapa. The programme started with the offering of butter lamps followed by a prayer and Zhabten dedicated for the good health, happiness and long life of His Majesty.

During the day, the College fraternity joined the rest of the community in Samtse to observe His Majesty’s Birth Anniversary celebration at the Dzongkhag celebration ground.

The College also observed a cake cutting ceremony in the evening attended by the College faculty, staff and student body. The evening celebration concluded with some entertainment programme including some singing and jam session.

The President of the College, who initiated this idea of observing this special occasion in the College stated that “It is important to observe such national occasions to teach students – the future teachers of the value and importance of being grateful to His Majesty for His steadfast/benevolent leadership, unconditional love and selfless sacrifices our Kings have made for the welfare and happiness of all Bhutanese.” He further explained that observing such occasions in the College can also help the future custodians of Bhutan’s education system to emulate and inculcate the age-old rich cultural heritage of “tha damtsig and ley judre”, which according the College President is a special character or quality, unique to the Bhutanese.
