Programme Overview

The Bachelor of Education Secondary Programme of the Samtse College of Education (SCE) has been designed in accordance with the larger goals of education that the Royal Government of Bhutan sets.

  • produce competent and committed teachers, who can teach effectively two subjects of specialisation from classes VII – X in schools in Bhutan;
  • facilitate in the student teachers the growth of positive attitudes towards their profession and learning, which they will pursue throughout their lives;
  • equip the student teachers with knowledge, skills, and attitudes to participate fully and confidently in the education system in particular and in the Bhutanese society in general, and to be able to function as an effective agent in significant areas of national development;
  • instill in the students a true sense of commitment and loyalty to the Teachers’ Code of Ethics;
  • develop awareness of the social context in which they belong, and the organisation of the institutional system in which they will be working as teachers;
  • inculcate in the student teachers a need for incessant professional growth and for a deep knowledge of the areas of their subject of specialisation and other aspects of education.

Learning outcomes of the programme

At the end of the programme, the student teachers will be able to:

  • acquire adequate knowledge in the subjects of specialisation;
  • relate applications of a particular subject in life and in related subjects;
  • relate subjects to the national policy and everyday life in Bhutan;
  • disseminate subject content adequately and effectively to school students;
  • carry out research-oriented teaching and conduct action research;
  • inculcate creativity and analytical skills in the students and make them effectively reflective;
  • construct and use a variety of evaluation tools and techniques;
  • act with emotional maturity and integrity in dealing with students, colleagues and authorities;
  • demonstrate a fair degree of tolerance and compassion in everyday interaction with students and teachers;
  • display a strong sense of love and respect for the King, the country and the people of Bhutan and appreciate the same in children;
  • adhere to the moral codes of conduct of a good teacher;
  • appreciate the diverse nature of students and respond to their needs; and appreciate the contribution of education in the development of an indivual and nation.
