Programme Overview

The Master of Education(MEd) in Physics is a full-time programme offered to in-service teachers teaching physics at Middle and Higher Secondary Schools. It aims to enhance the proficiency of  teachers through the development of content knowledge, pedagogy, technology and research skills. The programme also equips them to be critical, reflective, and innovative in identifying and developing solutions to emerging issues that impact learning of Physics in a local and global context. The programme consists of three professional modules, four elective modules (three advanced studies modules and one theme-based module), two research modules, and a dissertation (equivalent to 3 modules).

18-month full-time programme

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the programme, graduates will be able to:

  1. use appropriate teaching and learning resources, including ICT, to address learners’ needs;
  2. share innovative solutions to address contemporary issues in physics;
  3. exhibit a deep understanding of fundamental theories, concepts, principles, and laws of physics;
  4. apply knowledge of physics to real-life situations and everyday problems;
  5. solve complex problems by fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  6. integrate local scientific knowledge into physics instruction to bridge the gap between abstract concepts and students’ daily experiences;
  7. apply suitable research designs, methods, tools, and statistical software to conduct educational research in physics;
  8. promote an inclusive classroom environment that supports the diverse needs and learning styles of students;
  9. exhibit creativity in designing, implementing, and assessing physics lessons;
  10. apply contemporary teaching, learning, and assessment methods in their practice;
  11. reflect on classroom experiences to improve personal and peer teaching practices;
  12. examine educational philosophies that influence curriculum development and instruction;
  13. apply suitable statistical tools and software for analysing data in educational research;
  14. identify interventions to address common misconceptions in Physics;
  15. engage in self-learning, reflection, and lifelong learning to instil scientific temper and curiosity;
  16. use effective communication skills across various platforms and mediums for diverse audiences;
  17. develop professional skills and competencies for advancing physics education; and
  18. exhibit appropriate qualities expected of a Physics teacher, including the Code of Conduct for Teachers, Bhutanese values and etiquette.

How to Apply

The announcement for the programme will be made through Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD)  and Samtse College of Education (SCE)  websites well before the beginning of the academic year. The aspiring students must apply on­line. The RUB website will also contain the detailed procedures for the online application.

Selection Criteria

The selection criteria will be announced through the MoE and SCE websites.

 Entry Requirements

  • hold a bachelor’s degree in education with English as subject of specialisation or PgCE/PgDE in English from a University or Institute recognised by RCSC;
  • have scored a minimum of 50% in English Language Proficiency Test comprising of a written test and viva-voce administered by the college.
