Samtse College of Education Commemorates Zhabdrung Kuchoe with Reverence and Unity
On 26 April 2026, the Samtse College of Education community gathered to solemnly observe Zhabdrung Kuchoe, commemorating the parinirvana of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal—one of Bhutan’s most revered spiritual and political figures. The occasion served as a meaningful reminder of his enduring legacy in shaping Bhutan’s identity, unity, and cultural heritage.
To mark the day, a Bum recitation was organised along with the offering of butter lamps. By 7:00 a.m., around 60 students had assembled at the college Chosham (altar) to offer prayers and pay tribute to the great unifier of Bhutan. Many students also performed prostrations and brought Tshog offerings, along with refreshments for the prayer reciters later in the day.
The event also emphasised community bonding and hospitality. Refreshments, including juice, breakfast, tea, and a special lunch, were thoughtfully arranged for all participants. This created a warm and welcoming atmosphere that fostered fellowship and strengthened unity among attendees.
The commemoration was coordinated by the Prayer Councillors in collaboration with other councillors, with generous support from the college management. Their collective efforts ensured that the event was conducted smoothly and respectfully, reflecting a strong spirit of cooperation and shared responsibility within the college community. “We believe that today’s programme met our expectations. Everything went well, and we are thankful to each of you for making this initiative successful and meaningful,” said Tshering Pelden, the Prayer Councillor.
The recitation concluded at 5:30 p.m. with the traditional Tashi Moenlam prayers. The male Prayer Councillor expressed sincere gratitude to all participants for their contributions to the success of the event.
The successful observance of Zhabdrung Kuchoe highlights Samtse College of Education’s continued commitment to preserving Bhutanese traditions and values. Such occasions not only safeguard the nation’s rich cultural heritage but also instill a deeper sense of patriotism, cultural appreciation, and unity among the college community. Through events like this, the college continues to nurture respect for Bhutan’s history while fostering harmony and collective responsibility among its members.
