The newly formed Football Club at Samtse College of Education has kicked off its inaugural departmental football tournament, uniting students and faculty in a spirited display of teamwork and sportsmanship. More than just a competition, the tournament serves as a platform to foster camaraderie, build confidence, and promote healthy engagement among students.

Ten teams are vying for the championship title, representing various departments and academic programs. The competing teams include B.Ed I, B.Ed II IT, B.Ed II Arts, PGDE II A, PGDE II B, PGDCCP I, M.Ed I, PGDE I A, PGDE I Combined, and a special senior team comprising college staff. The unique team formations, which bring together players from different sections within the same department, have added an exciting layer of collaboration and strategy to the matches.

The tournament has ignited enthusiasm both on and off the field, with students passionately cheering for their teams. Sanjay Chhetri, the Football Club Coordinator and Games and Sports Custodian of the college, shared the vision behind the event: “This tournament was planned to welcome first-year students and strengthen bonds among students from different departments. Sports provide a constructive outlet and an opportunity for students to engage meaningfully beyond academics.” He also highlighted that 30 percent of the collected entry fees will be reinvested into purchasing essential football equipment for the club, while the winners will be rewarded with attractive cash prizes.

The competition has delivered nail-biting moments, showcasing the impressive skills of student athletes. After two weeks of intense matchups, the semi-final lineup was confirmed: B.Ed II IT faced PGDE II A, while B.Ed II Arts clashed with PGDE I Combined. The semi-finals took place on March 31 and April 1, with PGDE II A and PGDE I Combined emerging as formidable contenders for the final match. The grand final, set to be played this weekend, promises to be a high-stakes showdown eagerly awaited by the entire college community.

Beyond the thrill of competition, the tournament has infused campus life with energy, reinforcing friendships and creating unforgettable memories. By organizing this landmark event, the Football Club has made a significant contribution to the college’s sports culture, setting a strong foundation for future athletic initiatives. As anticipation builds for the final match, the entire college eagerly awaits to see which team will etch its name in history as the inaugural champions of the Departmental Tournament.
