Disaster Evacuation Mock Drill
The Disaster Management Committee conducted an Earthquake Evacuation Mock Drill on October 18, 2023, with the primary objective of familiarizing students with evacuation procedures and identifying the designated evacuation sites in the event of a disaster. The drill commenced at 2:30 pm when a Fire Brigade Truck sounded the first siren. During this drill, students demonstrated their readiness by performing the “Duck, Cover, and Hold.” After a minute, when the second siren sounded, students, faculty, and staff exited their rooms and gathered at their respective evacuation sites. Headcounts were done by the mentors and student leaders at these sites. At each evacuation site, two students from BA in Social Work provided instructions on disaster preparedness, highlighting essential guidelines for various disaster scenarios, including earthquakes, fires, thunderstorms, floods, and landslides. The mock drill was deemed highly successful, with PowerPoint slides shared with students to reinforce their awareness of their responsibilities before, during, and after disasters. It served as a vital training exercise, imparting critical knowledge and preparedness among the student community. Overall, the drill contributed to enhancing the safety and resilience of the campus community in the face of potential disasters, ensuring that students are well-prepared to face unforeseen challenges.
