Coinciding with the Lhabab Duechen- Descending Day of Lord Buddha, Bum- the collected words of Buddha was recited in the Rigsum Gonpo Hall.

Volunteers comprised of faculty, staff and students recited the complete set of Bum. According to the organisers, the recitation is a yearly practice of the College and is for the Wellbeing of His Majesty The King, His Majesty The Fourth Druk Gyalpo, Their Majesties- The Queens, country and people. And also for the welfare of college fraternity and sentient beings.

The College committee for Cultural Immersion and Education with support from the College management organised the recitation.

Considering its auspiciousness, the descending day of Lord Buddha is a public holiday in Bhutan. This auspicious day is also observed in other Buddhist countries. On this day (Lhabab Duchen), Buddhist believe that Buddha descended from  Trāyastriṃśa heaven to earth. According to legend, the Buddha ascended the Trāyastriṃśa heaven temporarily at the age of 41, to give teachings to benefit the gods in the realm, and to repay the kindness of his mother by liberating her from Samsara.

Descending day of Lord Buddha was declared as ‘Mother’s Day by current His Holiness Je Khenpo Truelku Jigme Choeda, since then Bhutanese have been observing the day as Mother’s Day.
