The College Felicitates Academic Staff
In a simple ceremony, the College felicitated two academic staff for completing their studies from the two different universities in South Asia.
Dr. Reeta Rai, a faculty of chemistry completed her PhD from the University of Kathmandu, Nepal and Mr. Ugyen Dorji, a faculty of mathematics completed his Masters from the South Asian University, Delhi, India.
Dr. Reeta shared her experiences of the PhD journey filled with emotion. She said, ‘as a lady, I faced a lot of challenges especially during the data collection, moreover, my PhD was mixed-mode and I struggled to strike balance between personal and professional duties,’ she expressed. She further added, ‘my husband was the biggest supporter during my PhD journey’ and also thanked the College management for supporting her to do and complete the PhD.
The title of her study was, “Assessment of surface water pollution induced by the disposal of vehicle wash wastewater – A case study of two western districts of Bhutan.” The study was supported by the Norwegian Programme for Capacity Development in Higher Education and Research for Development (NORHED) Projects of College of Natural Resources, Lobesa, Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) and Kathmandu University, Nepal. She was supervised by Prof. Dr. Subodh Sharma, Registrar, Kathmandu University, Prof. Dr. Dhan Bdr. Gurung, College of Natural Resources, RUB, and Prof. Dr. Bishal K. Sitaula, Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Norway.
Mr. Ugyen Dorji, a faculty of mathematics who completed his Masters in Mathematics shared that he has the right decision to pursue masters in 2018. He added, ‘had he been late in making a decision, the pandemic would have posed a challenge given the nature of the discipline and I thank the College for supporting the decision to pursue the masters.’
Dr. Rinchen Dorji, President of the College congratulated both the academics for completing the degrees. Further, the President highlighted that ‘it is not a degree just in paper, it is an outcome of so much of struggle, patience and hard work and I hope with your new learnings, the system will benefit.’ President also reminded the two academics to keep their passion to learn more and contribute to the education system.
