About the BA in Social Work Programme
SCE is offering this unique opportunity to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work Programme, first of its kind in the country. It is a 4 – year programme (8 Semesters) leading to degree in Bachelor of Arts in Social Work of Royal University of Bhutan (RUB). The academic session begins in July every year beginning with 2019. The programme aims to produce the next generation of social work graduates whose knowledge, skills and professional values will be guided by the wisdom of Jinpa– the act of generosity.
The BA in Social Work Programme consists of a robust curriculum with a balanced combination of knowledge, skills and professional ethics and values that will enable social work graduates to empower individuals, families, and communities, especially the vulnerable and the marginalized, to lead lives of dignity. The curriculum was designed through extensive research and review of the best international and Bhutanese practices and contexts.

Special Feature of the Programme
Among others, one of the special features of the BA in Social Work Programme is Fieldwork component. Fieldwork is the very heart of social work training and the vehicle through which students have the opportunity to practice the skills, knowledge and values taught in class. Accordingly, the filedwork in the BA in Social Work Programme is designed carefully to provide students with the opportunity to apply theories and practice skills learned in the classroom in social work field settings. There are two fieldwork placements, each of a semester long duration, and together they account for 25 per cent of the total credit values of the programme.
Programme Delivery and Support
The programme will be delivered and supported through awide range of teaching and learning approaches. Some of them are mindful practice, interactive lectures, tutorials, use of case studies, fieldworks, and project based learning, seminars and workshops.
SCE has a pool of highly qualified faculty in social work discipline. Other social work professionals and academics from both within and outside the country will be also engaged in the delivery of the modules through guest talks, seminars and fieldwork mentoring and supervision.
To begin with, college will enroll 35 students (Government scholarship 25 & Self-financed 10) for the academic year 2019.
- Class XII (Science/Arts/Commerce) pass students with a minimum of 50% in English.
- Ability rating points: English – 4; Dzongkha – 2; and any other three subjects – 1 each.
