Samtse College of Education marked a significant milestone today, February 20, 2025, with the official launch of the Master of Education (MEd) in History programme. The launch was celebrated with a simple tendrel ceremony, attended by faculty members, staff, and students of the newly introduced programme. <\/span><\/p>\n

The programme, initially conceptualized by Mr. Dorji S and Mr. Ramesh Chhetri, was validated in 2022 but faced delays in implementation due to ongoing transformations. With its formal introduction this year, the MEd in History reaffirms the college\u2019s commitment to advancing the professional growth of in-service history teachers in Bhutan.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking at the event, Programme Leader Thinley Wangchuk highlighted the significance of history education in nation-building. \u201cHistory plays a critical role in shaping national identity and fostering a sense of belonging. It allows students to take pride in Bhutan\u2019s collective memory, appreciate the contributions of our past leaders, and understand the struggles and perseverance of our ancestors, who shaped the Bhutan we see today,\u201d he stated.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Wangchuk further emphasized the evolving nature of history education, noting that the program will promote innovative teaching approaches and historical engagement. He highlighted that the curriculum is designed to refine teaching methodologies through pedagogical frameworks, curriculum theories, technology, and research.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYour growth in this programme will reshape classrooms across Bhutan, inspire new generations of learners, and set the foundation for a stronger history curriculum nationwide,\u201d Mr. Wangchuk addressed the nine incoming MEd History students, encouraging them to embrace this opportunity as a step toward educational excellence.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the successful launch of the MEd in History, Samtse College of Education continues to strengthen its role in advancing teacher education, ensuring that history is not just learned but meaningfully taught and understood in Bhutanese classrooms.<\/span><\/p>\n
