On this day (Lhabab Duchen), Buddhist believe that Buddha descended from Trāyastriṃśa heaven to earth. According to legend, the Buddha ascended the Trāyastriṃśa heaven temporarily at the age of 41, to give teachings to benefit the gods in the realm, and to repay the kindness of his mother by liberating her from Samsara.
Descending day of Lord Buddha was declared as ‘Mother’s Day by current His Holiness Je Khenpo Truelku Jigme Choeda, since then Bhutanese have been observing the day as Mother’s Day.
