Every Year, the 29th of May is celebrated as the College Foundation Day. On this day, The Visionary King His Late Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck inaugurated this college then known as Teacher Training Institute to train national teachers. Thousands of teachers have graduated from this institute making a vital contributions to the Bhutanese education system.

Although, the foundation day would be celebrated in grandeur, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s celebration was a low affair. It was attended by the representatives of the faculty, staff and students. The celebration began with the lighting of butter lamps in front of the portrait of His Late Majesty in the Counselling block which is the exact location of the first inauguration by The Third King. The College also launched the STEM website as part of the celebration. Thereafter, attendees walked to the Rigsum Goenpo Hall for the offering of various prayers for the welfare, peace and harmony of people in the country.  One of the faculty representatives, Mr. Ramesh Kumar Chettri, Lecturer in History shared, ‘he is extremely happy to have graduated from this college.’ He also expressed his gratitude to His Majesty and opined ‘Bhutan otherwise would have been still depended on others had His Late Majesty not instituted this college’. A student representative Mr. Tashi Phuntsho of B.Ed IVth Year Arts A shared, ‘I was looking forward to celebrate as in the previous years, unfortunately, could not due to the pandemic’. He further shared, ‘I wished and said silent prayers in my heart for the founder thanking for His vision in establishing this college.’

The commemoration of the day ended with the College management serving lunch to all the interested faculty, staff and students in the student mess.
