M. Ed Dissertation Defense 2019

Samtse College of Education launched Master of Education (M.Ed) in Science and Mathematics Education on 26thJuly 2017. It is a two-year full-time programme comprising of 2 course modules and a dissertation. The programme aims to enhance both subject knowledge and pedagogical competencies of the learners, besides inculcating research, critical thinking analysis and investigative work skills through various avenues. Forty students were enrolled for the first cohort.

The final phase of the course completion is the dissertation oral defense. The college is conducting dissertation oral defense from 10th– 18thJune, 2019. For the dissertation write up evaluation and oral defense, three examiners are engaged, two from the college (one subject expert and the other research expert) and other from outside the college. While two internal examiners were assigned 10 dissertation from each of the programme (M.Ed in Biology, M.Ed in Chemistry, M.Ed in Physics, and M.Ed in Mathematics) to examine, Dr. Som Gurung, Assistant Professor from Paro College of Education who is invited as an external examiner is evaluating all the 40 dissertation oral defense. Each student was given 25 minutes for the presentation and 10-15 minutes of question answers from the examiners and audience. The Principal Supervisor took the role of Chairperson/Moderator for their respective students.

The M.Ed Programme Leader Professor Nandu Giri stated that this is the first ever M.Ed dissertation defense for the first cohort of M.Ed students. He mentioned that aspiring to maintain high standard of M.Ed programme, research has been one of the core modules for the programme. He further highlighted that both the students and the supervisors have worked very hard to ensure that the dissertations are of high standard and quality of research output that are significant in providing future directions and guidance of educational decisions that are grounded in empirical research evidences.
