1 Library

The SCE library service is committed to supporting the teaching, learning and research programmes of the college by providing high quality, cost effective information and learning resources and services through a range of media.

To fulfill its mission the library undertakes to:
1. Collect and manage resources of all forms to support teaching-learning and research programme of the College.
2 .Improve its resources and services on a continuing basis in line with changing needs and priorities of the College.
3 .Provide equitable access for all users.
4. Impart information skills to users to make optimum use of resources.
5. Within the limits of available space provide areas for different user needs.
6. Ensure that users are treated with courtesy and respect by the library staff.

2.ICT

The student computer lab is to assist the students in developing and enriching their learning experiences. This provides an avenue for them to realize the importance of ICT in teaching and learning. However, they can also use these facilities for preparing assignments and collecting academic materials for their assignments and presentations.

It is of great importance that the resources in the student computer labs are functioning and are available for everyone who needs them.

The College, however, has limited ICT resources are made available for student use. At the moment we have two labs for students to access the intranet and Internet. Trainees can also bring in their laptop and connect them to Internet via wireless access point.
Wireless is accessible from anywhere within the campus.

3..Books Shop

The SCE Bookshop will be an important aspect of student teacher support services on our campus. The bookshop will make the access, availability and choice of books (new and second-hand) for student teachers easy and convenient. The college considers the access to and availability of books on campus most crucial to the quality and standard of the student teachers’ academic learning and achievement. The bookshop on campus will be of the size, quality and standard appropriate to the student teacher population and variety of academic programs. The university expects that all programs offered by the college aim to develop general intellectual, personal and communication skills in our graduates and that they are able to demonstrate the attributes as a result of the program. According to The Wheel of Academic Law, the college will show evidence of our graduates having developed general academic, intellectual, personal and communication skills in terms of the following, among others:

1 .A grounding in a discipline or in a coherent body of knowledge
2 .The possession of general academic skills
3 .An awareness of the contexts, boundaries and limits of subject matter studied
4 .The possession of self-motivated study skills and the readiness to continue learning
5 .Information literacy
6 .Languages and ICT competencies

The development of these attributes will depend critically on easy availability of books for the modules in each program in the college bookshop. The College Bookshop Management Committee will develop the TOR and service standards for the bookshop.

4.Reprographic unit

The reprographic unit of the College provides the following services:

1. Printing College documents and magazines
2. Making multiple copies of the handouts
3. Stencil cutting and duplicating

5.Photocopy and Printing:

Photocopy service is available both in the library and in the student service photocopy room. The laser printing facility is available in the student service photocopy room. These services are provided on payment of nominal charges.

6. Canteen

The College runs a canteen within the campus for the welfare of the students and staff. It is open on all working days. A good variety of tea and snacks, and some special dishes are available at very reasonable prices.

7. Student Teacher’s Mess

The student teacher mess in the SCE is managed class-wise by student teachers. Each class takes turn to manage the mess for a Month. The elected Mess Secretaries and Councillors take key roles in running the mess. It is intended that student teachers learn management skills by getting involved in the mess management.

8.Infirmary

At the moment the Health in-charges (one lady & one gent) from among the student body coordinates basic first aid services for the student teachers with the support from the district hospital. This facility benefits the entire student family in terms of its prompt services even at odd hours without having to visit the hospital. More importantly it enables the trainees to attend their classes regularly and concentrate on their academic achievement.

In the near future, these services will be provided by a professional health worker with wider choice of services and not just basic first aid.

Please note that a separate student handbook is available for detailed reference.
