General
objective of the module:
This module aims to further the ongoing professional development
by addressing various issues in the study of Geography. It also
aims to involve the trainee teachers in promoting a range of skills
and values, which will add quality to their understanding and
knowledge of the subject.
Specific
objectives or learning outcomes :
On completion of this module, the trainee teacher will be able to:
1.
Explore, design and plan fieldwork for classes IX and X school Geography.
2. Conduct an evaluation of Geography textbooks used in the Bhutanese
classrooms
3. Examine the importance of data in the study of Geography.
4. Familiarize with the Geography syllabus of the Middle Secondary and
Higher Secondary Schools
5. Critically analyze photos used in the geography textbooks as learning
resources and design activities for them.
6. Apply GIS and Remote Sensing Techniques in geographical studies.

1. Fieldtrip skills in teaching Geography
a) Approaches to field work-field teaching and field research.
b) Phases in field work-integration of fieldwork and classroom activities
based on class IX and X Geography syllabus.

Project work in Geography on Societies, Choices and Environments

Evaluation of Textbooks (detecting bias, gender, races issues

Geographical data- resources (Primary/Secondary) approaches of data collection;
a) Teaching graphic in Geography lessons, (Satellite images and remote
sensing).
b) Geographical facts from geographical figures (bias in maps statistics)

5. Familiarization of the Geography syllabus and textbook for classes
IX to XII.
6. Photo study–a critical appraisal of the images projected by the
photos in the textbooks as learning resources.

1. Contours: Spacing and patterns, Gradient, Slope types, indivisibility,
profiles and Relief Features by contours.
2. Numbering System of (1) international sheets (1:100,000) (2) Topographical
sheets of Bhutan (1:50,000) Marginal information on the topographical
sheet with special reference to symbols.
3. Study and interpretation of Typical Topographical sheets (1:50,000)
of Bhutan (high lands, Rift valley) with reference to physical and cultural
attributes like settlement distribution (rural and urban, transport lines,
canals, agricultural lands, etc. and their probable correlation with landforms.

General objective of the module:
This module will help the students to know the new development of history,
during the 20th century, as an independent subject, new innovation in
strategies for teaching history and a number of issues, which has to be
taken into consideration for teaching history objectively.
Specific
objectives or learning outcomes:
On completion of this module, the trainee teacher will be able to:

Students will be able to write suitable objectives from class IX and X
textbooks.
2. Prepare different types of teaching aids, suitable to high and higher
secondary school history curriculum.
3. Prepare lesson plan based on concept, skill and values from class IX
and X textbooks.
4. Explore and devise different types of learning activities suitable
for Classes IX to XII level
5. Devise different types of test and marking schemes suitable to high
and higher secondary school level.
6. Evaluate class IX and X textbooks.

century. (Students will select a topic in consultation with the tutor.)

4. Use of resources and teaching aids in the teaching of history suitable
to high and higher secondary school curriculum, improvising teaching aids
in consideration to local situation, co-curricular activities, field trips,
clubs etc.
5. Learning activities: crosswords, games, simulation, role-play, library
research, project assignments, etc.
6. Teaching controversial issues.
• Types of controversial issues - socio-economic and political issues.
• Methods for finding evidence- facts, chronology of the events
and various interpretations.
• Discussion on the findings.
• Consensus on the findings.
7. History teaching for national integration.
• Historical perspectives on the following elements of national
unity:
a) Language
b) Religion
c) Geographical location
d) Racial
e) Traditions and Culture
• Technique for achieving national integration – day to day
activities like national anthem, patriotic songs, symposiums & debates
on national issues, and acquainting children with national projects and
progress.

and their contribution to human society as a whole.

organization.
• Techniques of promoting international integration- celebration

objective of the module:
The chief aim of this module is to enable the trainee teachers gain confidence
and skills required to teach Economics at Class XI and XII level. To fulfill
this, the module attempts to equip the trainee teachers in areas such
as measurement and evaluation and teaching strategies, simultaneously
offering insightful glimpses into the Economics syllabus at class XI and
XII level.
Specific

On completion of this module, the trainee teacher will be able to:

Organise a visit to the local commercial/financial unit
(2) Design a project work assignment along with marking scheme
(3) Examine critically the curriculum material prescribed for Economics
(4) Frame questions testing the different cognitive levels

effectively.
