Department of Education Psychology
[ Mr.Karma Gayphel , Head of Education Psychology Department.]

Department of Educational Psychology
The Department offers Educational Psychology modules such as Child Development and Learning Process along with Guidance and Counselling, Measurement and Evaluation across different Courses. Except for Guidance and Counselling, which is offered as elective modules at the Post Graduate Diploma in Education, all others are offered as compulsory modules with the intent of personal development of an individual student teacher. However, Guidance and Counselling is offered as an optional module for the final year B.Ed. students to orient them with some basic helping skills. As such, modules offered by this Department forms a pre-requisite for a successful teaching profession.
Aims:
The Department aims to provide a foundational knowledge of major theories that underlie child development, teaching learning processes, assessment techniques and basic helping skills with intent of enhancing overall personal development of an individual student: becoming a reflective person, efficient teacher and an understanding human being.
Objectives:
The specific objectives of the Department are to provide student teachers the opportunities to:

• Examine critically the growth and development of a child across different stages, gaining insight into their own history of growth and development.

• Explore and apply teaching learning approaches in delivering any content of any subject area at various levels in the Bhutanese classrooms.

• Demonstrate a sound knowledge of different assessment techniques and analyze the overall performance of their students.

• Enhance basic helping skills in catering to different issues children and adolescents come across in their day to day lives, which may be affecting their studies and school performance.

• Facilitate and integrate appropriate application of the knowledge and skills acquired to help their students explore post-school opportunities through School Career Education Programme.
