In order to enable the Academic Board of the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) to grant the awards of their programs, the college Examination and Evaluation Committee is responsible mainly for three tasks:
1. to organize and conduct all the assessment and evaluation;
2. to declare the results through the Program Board of Examiners; and
3. to help maintain the records of the graduates
Further, the college aspires to provide the exemplary models of meaningful assessment for the student teachers who in turn go to the schools and practise the same. Towards these ends, assessment, examination and evaluation at the college can be viewed as:
• A method of acquiring and processing the evidence needed to improve the students’ learning and teaching
• A variety of evidence beyond the usual final ‘paper and pencil’ examination
• An aid in clarifying the significant goals and objectives of teacher education and as a process for determining the extent to which students are developing in these desired ways
• A system of quality control in which it may be determined at each step in teaching-learning process whether the process is effective or not, and if not, what changes must be made to ensure its effectiveness before it is too late
• A tool in the teacher education practice to ascertain whether alternative procedures are equally effective or not in achieving our goals
To achieve the above aims, detailed rules and regulations for the college are made available to the students through the Student Handbook. Amongst other, the rules include the eligibility criteria, conduct in carrying out the assessment tasks, student and staff responsibilities, accessing
results, and availing the academic transcripts.
There are two bodies involved in fulfilling the above responsibilities:
1. Examination and Evaluation Committee (Working Committee)
2. Program Board of Examiners (Decision making body)
Examination and Evaluation Committee comprises of:
1. Dean of Academic Affairs – Chair
2. Faculty staff – Member Secretary
3. Four to five faculty staff – Members
4. Two – three support staff – Members
Program Board of Examiners comprises of:
1. Director – Chair
2. Dean of Academic Affairs – Member
3. Dean of Student Affairs – Member
4. All Program Leaders - Members
5. All Heads of Departments – Members
6. Examinations Secretary – Member Secretary
